Better Retro-PC and their graphics cards

Hi there!!!

I am making several retro-PC to test old games and I have:
Pentium 4 + ATI 9250(AGP)
Pentium 3 + Soundblaster 128 + Voodoo3
Pentium 2 + AWE32 + TNT2 + Voodoo2
Pentium 133 + SoundBlaster Pro + S3 Virge3D 4MB + Voodoo1

Do you think those options are the best, or do you prefer others? I read that the people link the G400 MAX, a strange card (for me), or a Banshee even, the dammed card of 3dfx.
What cards do you use in your retro-pc?

Regadrs!!

Polish by Google Translate:
Cześć!!!

Przygotowuję kilka retro-PC do testowania starych gier i mam:
Pentium 4 + ATI 9250 (AGP)
Pentium 3 + Soundblaster 128 + Voodoo3
Pentium 2 + AWE32 + TNT2 + Voodoo2
Pentium 133 + SoundBlaster Pro + S3 Virge3D 4MB + Voodoo1

Czy uważasz, że te opcje są najlepsze, czy wolisz innych? Czytam, że ludzie łączą G400 MAX, dziwną kartę (dla mnie) lub nawet Banshee, spiętrzoną kartę 3dfx.
Jakie karty używasz w swoim komputerze retro?

Regadr !!

It all depends on your needs really. People tend to use high end hardware and based on that, I would swap 9250 for something faster in the first setup. Also, I would use Live! instead of SB128 in the second setup. Third setup seems to be balanced, although in terms of period-correctness, something like AWE64 would be more adequate. Last setup should be very compatible with various DOS games, although with SoundBlaster Pro you are limiting yourself to 8-bit/22kHz audio.

Please share some more details about intended use-cases and specific parts. "Pentium 4" is very generic and it may be slow Willamete CPU as well as fast Prescott which can more than double the performance of the former.

Mam za dużo zestawów i za dużo tekstu naprodukowałem aby to wszystko tutaj pomieścić...

Yes - sound blaster pro - especially the firs one, but CT1600 (so SB pro 2) also fits better 486 build. Penium is AWE and as @forteller wrote P2 is more AWE64 or something like first vortex for windows.

I like very much matrox G400 series cards. One of my favorite compaq build- AP550 Workstation has G400 DH as a standard factory equipment. Now mine AP550 has G400MAX onboard Cool Thx @MarianX
AP550 was my first dual cpu setup, bought for the first self-made money back in 2001  Grin

And Banshee  Roll Eyes
I with several colleagues from the forum (from today's point of view) we find that this card is very good. Especially PCI version. Together with pentium pro / pentium II it creates a very successful team.
My PR440FX@2x P2-OD with Innovision Mighty Banshee creates very playable rig for GLQ, Q2, Q3 and UT'99  Cool Power of VB is adequate for this CPUs. It reaches as many frames as voodoo3, voodoo4 and Voodoo5  Cool
